Posted November 10, 2018 09:37:23A Maine real-estate photographer has been sentenced to 7 years in federal prison for a 2006 scheme to steal thousands of dollars from a man’s estate, the Justice Department said Wednesday.
A sentencing hearing for Kevin B. Lai, a 29-year-old Portland resident, was held in federal court in Portland.
The federal complaint said Lai “used a sophisticated scheme to gain control of property from multiple people, including a wealthy man with multiple residences, the owner of multiple luxury homes, and numerous other family members.”
Lai and another defendant, Daniel P. Krakoski, both pleaded guilty to the conspiracy and each are serving sentences in prison in Maine.
Lai, who lives in Portland, was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Kevin M. Cate.
Krakosks wife, Mary, and a former partner were also sentenced to federal prison.
Karakoski has been incarcerated at a federal prison in Tacoma, Wash., and pleaded guilty last year to a charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
