Posted October 20, 2018 08:08:12Seattle real estate agent John Matson was arrested last week on charges of prostitution and drug dealing, Seattle police said.
Seattle police spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Jones said detectives from the prostitution unit were called to a Bellevue apartment building on Wednesday after receiving a tip that Matson had been selling and dealing drugs.
When officers arrived at the apartment building, they found Matson, 47, with a prescription for cocaine and marijuana, Jones said.
Officers said they found $20,000 in cash, a loaded .45-caliber handgun and methamphetamine in Matson’s bedroom.
They also found the cocaine, which was worth about $2,000, in the bedroom, Jones added.
The woman was arrested at her apartment, where she told officers that she was Matson and that she had been soliciting customers from Matson on the internet, Jones wrote in an email to The Associated Press.
Seattle Police Detective Robert Tackett said Matson worked at the Bellevue office of Real Estate Brokers Group.
He said he did not know if he was licensed or licensed as a real estate professional.
Seattle’s real estate industry has been a hotbed for illegal activity and prostitution, including for years, with some brokerages operating in the shadows.
Matson was booked into the King County Jail and booked on suspicion of one count of prostitution, one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine, Jones confirmed to the AP.
She was released Friday after posting $1,000 bail.
The Seattle Police Department has a prostitution unit, Jones told the AP, which investigates allegations of prostitution.
Seattle has the highest number of complaints of sex trafficking per capita of any city in the U.S., Jones said in an emailed statement.
The AP previously reported on a former Real Estate brokers housekeeper who was accused of trafficking sex and money.
In the case, she was found guilty of racketeering and sentenced to seven years in prison.
The AP has contacted the Seattle Police Dept. and Matson for comment.
